For episode thirty-two, I spoke with Darcy Kitching who is a community builder in Boulder. Darcy is the author of the book The Best Urban Hikes: Boulder, is finishing her Ph.D. in Geography, Planning, and Design at the University of Colorado Denver with a study of youth and family weekday transportation in Boulder County, and is a Transportation Demand Management professional working at Boulder Transportation Connections which is a non-profit organization that addresses traffic congestion and air-quality problems in our community. In this interview with Darcy we covered many topics including but not limited to community building through walking, her dissertation work, the need for a transit dignity act, the importance of independent travel for children, car pool parties, the relationship between community building and transportation usage and many other subjects dear to my heart. I admire Darcy for being able to walk 26 miles. But even more amazing is that she’s convinced hundreds of others to join her in slow walk marathon events which you should definitely check out if you are interested.
